As several independent studies show, the values of the intra-ocular pressure as measured by means of a tonometer (IOP) is to be corrected by the central pachymetry data of the examined human eye.
The IOP is an important parameter concerning diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma.
Studies showed that measurements of a thinner cornea yield wrongly a lower IOP than the real IOP, and vice versa at thicker corneas. As a rule for the said dependency, you should correct the measured IOP by 0,5 mmHg for every 10 μm deviation from 550 μm of central cornea thickness. This value is to be added to the IOP of eyes with a thinner cornea and subtracted from the IOP of eyes with a thicker cornea.
